EXPERIENCED CALIFORNIA AG LENDER JOINS CONTERRA AG CAPITAL TEAM
DES MOINES, Iowa, May 15, 2019 — Conterra Agricultural Capital has boosted its presence in a key U.S. agricultural geography with the addition of a new relationship manager based in Fresno, California. One of the most experienced farm financial specialists in the Central Valley of California, Roy Martin has been named vice president relationship manager at Conterra Ag.
Martin started his career in ag lending four decades ago at Crocker National Bank in Fresno. At Crocker National Bank, he specialized in farm real estate financing and management during the Farm Crisis in the 1980s. Since then, he’s worked in ag real estate lending and collateral inspection for Doane Western and Sanwa Bank California, which later became United California Bank. Prior to joining Conterra Ag, he managed a nationwide team of agricultural collateral inspectors for Bank of the West.
“I’ve worked on or managed ag projects in most agricultural states, especially from the Midwest to the West,” said Martin, who has expertise in most California commercial crops as well as the dairy and livestock sectors. “It’s exciting to begin working with Conterra to help the nation’s farmers and ranchers get the financial solutions they need to sustain their operations for future generations. Conterra Ag has those solutions for agriculture around the country, and I’m excited to get started with them.”
Martin brings decades of experience to Conterra Ag’s portfolio of ag lending and asset management services. But he also possesses a vision and awareness of ag financial cycles gleaned from working with farmers, ranchers and dairy producers through the Farm Crisis of the 1980s, one of the most challenging times for American agriculture in the last century.
“Roy has been there for producers in a time when just making ends meet was impossible for thousands of farmers. He worked with farm families to survive the Farm Crisis, and because of that experience, he has such a strong understanding of what it takes to sustain farm operations through difficult times,” stated Conterra Ag President and CEO Paul Erickson. “He will be instrumental in Conterra Ag’s ability to provide producers in California with the financial solutions they need.”
